Before I give you my top 3 steps to feeling amazing in your own skin, I want to share a story which brought this blog post about.
I was recently disappointed when I rocked up to a boxing class on a 30 degree summers day to be faced with 8 gorgeous women sweating it out in leggings.
Now not because they were wearing leggings, don’t check out just yet!
Now I love leggings. I have a big selection of leggings, with various colors’ and patterns and hold them close to my heart ( Me and lululemon are besties!)
However when its 30 degrees out there, I want the glorious feeling of feeling the sunshine on my legs, albeit with factor 30 lovingly slathered on them, so pull out my equally varied colored shorts, and pop on a vest top.
So I was shocked and exclaimed my shock when I realized 100% of my boxing class was in leggings. I exclaimed shocked, why are you all wearing leggings? Aren’t you too hot?
To be completely honest one women had shorts on but they were on top of her leggings, so doesn’t count…
Their responses disappointed me and my heart sank a little further with each one.
- I’d never wear leggings, I hate my legs.
- If I had legs like yours I’d wear shorts. (Side note I love my legs because of what they enable me to do, but they definitely aren’t anything special apart from that!)
- I haven’t worn shorts in 20 years.
- I don’t like my knees.
- I don’t wear anything that’s shorter than my knees.
You get the idea.
I’m here to tell you that you can wear anything you want and your worthy of wearing ANYTHING you want and feeling comfortable and happy it in.
I used to be the chick in the gym with leggings on and a pair of shorts underneath, because I wanted my bum hidden.
3 steps to feel amazing in your own skin and anything else:
1 – I dialed up the self love. Rather then focusing on the cellulite I have on my legs, I started dry brushing, moisturizing, and thanking them for carrying me around all day, and enabling me to do what I love to do.
2 – I stopped caring what other people thought. As a personal trainer and a women I felt that everyone was constantly analyzing my body, and I didn’t want them to see that I had cellulite of the way when I sat down my thighs splayed, or jiggled when I ran. I realized that people were most likely going to judge me, but that said more about them rather than me.
3 – I focused on nourishing my mind, body and soul. Might sound cheesy, but I started meditating to quiet down the mean girl in my head, focusing on nourishing my body from the inside out, and finally nourishing my mind with positive books, unliking facebook/Instagram pages which didn’t make me feel great about my body, and swapping them for pages which celebrated bodies of all sizes and surrounding myself with positive messages and people.
Now I don’t think twice about popping my bikini on, or wearing my short shorts. As long as I feel comfortable and I’m enjoying myself I’ll wear anything I like.
