8 Tips for better wellbeing and health

In honour of my first 8 week Small group personal training sessions starting I shared 8 Tips for better wellbeing and health on my facebook and instagram. Incase you didn't see them, I decided to bring them all together and share them here, for 8 take away tips to get you thinking.

NUTRITION:  I believe nutrition is the foundation to good health. If you don’t nourish your body, how do you expect it to perform efficiently?

My way is to focus on what we should be eating more off and what we should be eating less of. Theres nothing cut out on the Beachfit diet as I believe thats not a sustainable approach… and thats what the Beachfit program is about. Setting up sustainable lifelong results.

We focus on filling our plates with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, and unprocessed foods, and minimising processed foods.

 MOVING: and listening to your body. I believe that moving you body should fuel you, and be a source of happiness, love and gratitude as opposed to sticking to a rigid work out shecdule. Before you go to exercise ask your body, what does it need today?

If your stiff from your workout yesterday maybes a yoga class as opposed to the 10km run you had planned. Or if you bounced out of bed with a tonne of energy maybes a cycle around your city instead of the light weights session you planned.

Movement can be fun! Incorporate your hobbies into your weekly movement plan - love to kayak, great, do more of that, surf that too.

Drop in, tune in, and act accordingly.

SLEEP: I believe sleep is vital, and should be considered a nutrient. Without sleep we perform less efficiently were more prone to indulging in simple carbs or sugary treats for an energy boost, more likely to search for a energy in a large skinny latte, and maybes skip our planned workout, or not put 100% into it.

How amazing would it be too bounce out of bed in the morning and not need 2 cups of coffee before your capable of a conversation? Its possible, once you get into a efficient sleeping routine, and have some tricks up your sleeve. Check out my previous post for my top sleep tips here.

MEDITATION: So many people say they don’t have time to meditate. Will i’m here to tell you that it will make a huge difference in your day and you will feel so much better for it.

How about instead of checking your Facebook feed on the way to work you closed your eyes and focused on your breath? Can you imagine how calm and connected you would be before arriving at your office?

Meditation is one of my key daily practices, download a app, and get started. I recommend headspace and buddify.

GRATITUDE: “Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.” ― Epicurus.

Too often we feel that the world is against us rather then thanking the world for the miracle we are. By practicing gratitude on a daily basis, we can choose to live in a more positive frame of mind, and see the light in everything.

Before getting up in the morning think of 3 things your grateful for.

STRESS: Rest is the antidote to stress. Stress is our bodies way of getting us ready to fight or flight. Unfortunately we perceive stress in our daily lives too often, and its having a negative effect on our health and wellbeing.

The next time your stressed, try closing your eyes and taking a few DEEP breaths. Really filling up your lungs and slowing your exhale. Its like a magic pill. Alongside this try and change your perception of stress - is it a life and death matter? Hopefully not,  so revisit what your thankful for this will help you to recenter.

DETOXIFY: We’ve cleaned up the internal environment, but now it's time to clean up the external environment. Did you know that you skin absorbs 60-90% of what you put onto it on a daily basis? The average women uses 10 personal products a day, most of the chemicals in her are being absorbed into your bloodstream and you liver is left with the job of detoxifying them all.

Be aware of the chemical products we use in our homes and on our skin - environments we can control. Next time you run out of a product pop online or to a local beauty shop and replace it with a  natural product.

WELLBEING RITUALS: We all have our own little rituals. Ways we drive to work, or how we make our cuppa, but what about rituals that elevate your wellbeing?

The final step is all about thinking about rituals that you may want to in corporate into your life. Like a healthy pick and mix, that will delight your spirit and cultivate joy and connect you to you.
